In instances of adrenal weakness, Pleo Stroph can delay the sodium pump, reducing myocardial work and thereby supporting a weak senile heart.

Together with other substances which affect the heart, strophanthin is numbered among the cardiac glycosides. The cardiac glycosides have a common structure – they consist of a basic steroid framework which is a compound of an aglycon and a glycoside sugar.

Cardiac glycosides have a positive inotropic and bradycardiac effect. They increase the output of the heart by inhibiting the Na+/K+ ATPase of the plasma membrane. This means a strengthened contraction of the cardiac muscle (positive inotropic effect). At the same time the concentration of intracellular calcium decreases, reducing the membrane’s stationary potential and dropping the rate of conduction (bradycardiac effect).

When very small doses of cardiac glycosides are administered, there is no positive inotropic effect; only the sodium pump (Na+/K+ ATPase) is stimulated, which explains the marvelous successes of homeopathic preparations with g-strophanthin.

Strophanthin has a predominantly systolic action, as opposed to the diastolic action of digitalis. This makes Pleo Stroph an excellent remedy for patients with pronounced cardiac dilation where no further improvement can be achieved due to a depression of the diastole.

Pleo Stroph tablets are recommended in acute conditions at one tablet every half hour to hour, and up to 12 doses per day.

How do you support your cardiovascular patients?

REBA device to verify and quantify the presence of an emotional or energetic disturbance. Measurements are charted and a practitioner can determine suitable action if required. The appropriate, non-toxic complex homeopathic is selected from among 33 available combinations and after eight to 12 weeks, the patient returns to confirm progress.

This October, I met with the REBA inventor, physicist Dieter Jossner. I asked about the workings of REBA to help me pass on the principles to educators and

doctors. Dieter has been studying biophysics and subtle energy as a researcher and inventor for over 30 years. He now works in a rural Rheinau, Germany

laboratory at a location selected for low EMF interference and lousy cell reception!

Dieter discovered when one or more of the normal brainwave patterns receive an external intrusion of noise sufficient to disrupt quiet function (he calls it white noise) the result of the irritation is an involuntary and mild flinch of the thorax. The reaction is so subtle that a practitioner must watch for it using a biometric test to confirm a positive response and the patient often doesn’t know it’s happening.

Essentially the device is a low frequency noise generator. A signal amplifier activates a variable quartz oscillator. The output is processed in a digital noise generator where dis-harmonic frequencies (phase shifted to cause destructive interference) are created within selected frequency bands matching the Delta (1.5 – 4 Hz), Theta (5 – 8 Hz), Alpha (9 – 14 Hz) and Beta (15 – 40 Hz) waves. A signal splitter separates the frequency spectrum under study and the amplitude of the noise is adjusted upward until the patient responds or a negative test is affirmed.

Each of these bands of ultra low frequency are associated with their own behavioral and emotional capacities. The higher frequencies such as Alpha and Beta waves tend to be associated with higher physical activity, excitement, coordination and thought processing. The lower frequencies tend to be associated with meditation, introspection, relaxation, deep sleep and dreaming.

Much like a dog being sensitive to a dog whistle, the sensitivity to brainwave noise is unique to the weakened patient in close proximity to the REBA device. The output can also be detected by a listening device tuned to ultra-low frequencies. To an energetically weakened brain, the interference is like finger nails on a chalkboard.

Remember how we laughed watching dozens of students squirm and cover their ears when the teacher dragged their nails across the chalkboard? This is the power that carefully tuned sound can have on our brain and our physiology. In this case it’s helping us to help others.
<div

Yet, the vast majority of vitamins and minerals consumed today are derived from synthetic, laboratory derived chemicals, known as USP* vitamins and minerals, also known as isolated chemical nutrients. USP isolates are in a form the body cannot readily accept because they are isolated from other critical components usually found in food and necessary for proper nutrient utilization within the body.

*USP states for United States Pharmacopoeia.

Understanding These Supplement Superstars

here are principally four ways in which nutritional substances are presented to the body:

• As food

• By means of isolated chemical (USP) form

• Through amino acid chelates

• As re-natured nutrients

The human body is specifically designed to receive its nutrients from food, however, in recent years the nutritional value of food sources has decreased. The soil today is 55 per cent to 85 per cent less nutrient rich than just 60 years ago and even organic fruits and vegetables are five to ten times less nutritious than they were then. In 1992, the Earth Summit reported that farmland in North America was found to be 85 per cent mineral depleted. As a result, supplementing our diet with vitamins and minerals has become a common route to replenish and ensure adequate intake of micronutrients.

Food is the most effective nutrient delivery system and Food Nutrient Series supplements come closest to replicating the nutrient value of food. In contrast, chelated and isolated minerals fall well short of providing the nutritional value of food and therefore provide less support to the body.

Be Aware of Chemically Synthesized Vitamins

Isolated Chemical Nutrients: The majority of the 13 recognized vitamins cannot be successfully chemically isolated in a stable form. Therefore, in order to manufacture them in a form that is stable, they are converted to salts such as thiamine mono-nitrate (vitamin B1) or pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6) – forms not found in nature.

In addition, for commercial necessity, many vitamins are chemically synthesized to produce a pure isolate by processes which have little connection with food! The same problem exists with minerals – the sources used to create them are mainly inorganic or organic salts.

Isolated chemical nutrients may eventually be absorbed either through mega doses or because they are in the form of very tiny particles. But, when they enter the blood stream, there is no mechanism to target their delivery. Since the body does not recognize them, they are frequently either deposited in the wrong place or flushed out of the body. These chemical isolated minerals and vitamins do not come close to the efficiency of food in providing the body with nutrients in an easily accessible form.

Realizing the shortcoming of isolated chemical nutrients prompted scientists to develop amino acid chelates and Food Nutrient Series supplements as an alternative means of providing the body with micronutrients in a form closer to food.

Amino Acid Chelates: Due to the micronutrients in amino acid chelates being complexed with amino acids (the building blocks of proteins in food) they are more available for the body to utilize compared to the isolated chemicals. Unfortunately, this method has its short comings, as chelated vitamins and minerals deliver only a single vitamin or mineral on a single amino acid and are open to attack by digestive juices resulting in few vitamins or minerals being properly absorbed.

Food Nutrients (or re-natured nutrients as they are sometimes called), advance the state of nutrient delivery to the body still closer to the efficiency of food and they are non-toxic. The vitamins and minerals provided by this method possess the highest utilization rate of any form of supplementation and practically replicate food.

The Food Nutrients resemble real food and its component parts.

Supplementation at its BEST!

Food Nutrient Series supplements are recognized as some of the most exciting and effective supplements to emerge.

They are, by their nature, structurally different from, and much more effective than, traditional chemically based (USP) brands of supplement. Food Nutrient supplements are complete extracts from natural foods, bound together within their natural matrix of supporting molecules and carrier proteins.

The food matrix is essential for transporting the nutrients around the body and provides the ability for the receptor cells to absorb the nutrients. Food Nutrient Series vitamin and mineral supplements are referred to as re-natured because they are converted back into a natural food matrix (and molecular structure) that enables them to be recognized by the body as ‘food’. This allows them to deliver the maximum nutritional benefit to the body. The vitamins and minerals in Food Nutrient Series supplements are guided by the protein contained within the food matrix right to the cells that need the nutrients.

Over Many Years of Research and Testing,
the Perfect Vitamins Emerge

Food Nutrient Series supplements are made by means of an international patented process, originally developed by Andrew Szalay, founder of Grow Company, Inc. Vitamins and minerals are mixed into a solution of plant matter that absorb the supplements and bind them with other natural compounds to provide the necessary food matrix. The resulting new nutrients are as close as possible to the natural food matrix. Each nutrient ends up imbedded in a matrix that has the greatest affinity toward that specific nutrient. For instance, all the minerals and vitamin D metabolites are grown in a culture of Saccharomyces cerevisias (yeast); whereas, for other vitamins, other plant matter is used to develop a matrix which more closely correlates to that specific vitamin.

The resulting complex food matrix imbeds the vitamins and minerals in protein (including all the essential amino acids), complex carbohydrates, dietary fiber and bioflavonoids.

The Advantages of Food Nutrient Series Supplements

Being 90% effective and the closest form of supplementation to food, Food Nutrient Series supplements allow much greater absorption and more fully deliver the benefits of the vitamins and minerals they contain. In this way, they are fundamentally different from, and substantially more effective than, conventional chemically-based USP supplements, which are pharmaceutically produced as ‘free state’ compounds without the inherent advantage of a natural food matrix.

Extensive testing has shown that, compared to other supplement forms, Food Nutrient Series supplements:

Are more effectively absorbed into the bloodstream.

Remain in the bloodstream longer (and are excreted more slowly in the urine).

Are considerably less prone to cause trace mineral toxicity.

Are gentler on the stomach.

Perform significantly better in terms of physiological activity.

The higher quality, increased effectiveness and greater nutritional value of Food Nutrient Series supplements means that required dosages can be significantly lower than for other forms of supplements. Unwanted effects are reduced and they offer a better value for money proposition.

The greater effectiveness of Food Nutrient Series supplements can make a significant difference to your patient’s health which can often be evident in as little as a few weeks.

The idea that pure synthesized or isolated nutrients (including chelated minerals) are just as good as the complex forms in foods (or Food Nutrients), since those foods will be broken down anyway, certainly needs to be re-considered.

Dr. Massoud Arvanaghi, Vice President of Operations, GrowCompany, Inc. discussed the distinct advantages of Food Matrix™ over USP isolated nutrients. When asked why is FoodMatrix™ more effective, better absorbed, better retained and better utilized, Dr. Massoud replied:

“Because FoodMatrix™ is as close to natural food. You can have a car; however, if you don’t have an engine, the car is never going to run. You can have a car with an engine but if you have no gas you’re going nowhere. You can take a lot of isolated nutrients but if it has no place to go it’s not going to provide benefit. If you have a letter in an envelope but the envelope has no address or zip code, the letter will never reach its destination.

In FoodMatrix™, because the nutrients are embedded to protein, carbohydrates, enzymes, fiber, etc., they are giving the nutrients directions. The body then knows where the nutrient goes, when to release, when to absorb and when to utilize it. USP isolates just have the car so to speak. FoodMatrix™ nutrients have the car, engine, gas, global positioning and knows exactly where to go.”

And now you can discover Food Nutrient Series supplements found only at Biomed.

Give your patients the supplements they deserve:

Antioxidant

Complete C

Multivitamin & Mineral

Premium D1000

Super B

<div

On the one hand, it is learned that the nervous system controls the movements of the skeleton muscles which is ruled by our willpower. On the other hand, it is taught that the autonomic nervous system works independently from our will. It regulates all involuntary actions in the body – those functions that operate without our conscious mind – like breathing, heartbeat, digestion, blood pressure, sleep and many others. We can observe and even measure that certain patients suffer from high blood pressure, sweaty hands, constipation, diarrhea, sleeping disorders, fatigue, cramps of inner organs, disorders of the menstrual cycle or many other symptoms. Frequently due to the lack of test results by conventional medicine, such as blood tests, x-rays or ultrasound testing to support their causes, these ‘functional disorders’ or ‘autonomic nervous malfunctions’ remain inadequately treated. Take the example of high blood pressure – a condition that affects millions of people. Conventional medicine offers remedies that block the symptoms – beta blockers, antidepressants, etc., rarely asking what the reason is behind these symptoms. Many practitioners upon observing arteriosclerosis in the arteries, draw the conclusion that it is enough to simply reduce the input of saturated fats and cholesterol in the diet to overcome the problem. Yet, as many contradictory studies worldwide have shown, there are additional factors that can influence blood pressure that is not adequately taken into account during treatment. This is where naturopaths (and other holistic practitioners) have an advantage – as they view the patient as a whole. They know the human system has the ability to regulate itself and illness means something has gone wrong in the subtle tuning. Consequently, when a symptom (such as high blood pressure) is observed, it is recognized as a sign of a deeper imbalance in the organism that needs to be addressed. Natural healers philosophically understand the body has a ‘blueprint of health’ and wants to return to a healthy equilibrium as soon as blocks are out of its way. This is true as long as the body has the ability to regulate itself, as long as the inner organs are still able to function properly and are not irreparably damaged. Since ancient times, medical practitioners have realized the body’s autonomic regulation is a key factor in dealing successfully with unclear symptoms. For instance, for over 5,000 years the practice of Chinese medicine has been based on balancing Yin and Yang. Whereas in European medicine, something similar known as elements and tempers is taught. A central theme of holistic treatment is to bring the autonomic nervous system into balance by putting the pendulum back in motion between Yin (-) and Yang (+) as shown in the diagram. When the autonomic function is out of harmony, it exhibits the characteristic signs of autonomic hypo-function (vagotony) or autonomic hyper function (sympathicotony), much like a defective thermostat that is stuck in too much heat (sympathicotony) or too little heat (vagotony). The range of harmony (normal functioning range) results in good health and feelings of well-being. Vagotony (hypo-function of the parasympathetic nervous system) brings the body into relaxation and sleep, but if it continues for too long, it leads to body cramps and fatigue. What I tell my patients who are in this state is “All organs only work as little as possible, on a very low level and your body is so tired that everything cramps and loses its blossoms.” These patients need power support and activation. In former times, such patients would be encouraged to address their condition through good nutrition, iodine and exercise, and this health regime is still good advice today. The famous Dr. Aschner was successful in treating vagotony by getting his patient to take spicy food containing lots of iron, coffee and remedies for the stomach and intestines. In my practice I have had good results by prescribing the homeopathic remedy Paravita (Rubimed) to rebalance the autonomic system. Signs of Vagotony are:

Miosis

Dry skin

Constipation

Low blood pressure

Bradycardia.

A face that looks tired and under tension

Spasms of all kinds, like in the bronchia, gallbladder, intestines and other muscular organs

Sympathicotony (hyper-function of the sympathetic nervous system) for the body means being on the run – like a hunted animal that can’t come to rest. This state will lead to exhaustion sooner or later. I tell my patients who are in this condition that their constant distress has led them to fatigue. Such individuals benefit from tranquility and things like purgation, sweating or colonics. I like to prescribe the homeopathic remedy Simvita (Rubimed) in order to harmonize the autonomic functions. Signs of Sympathicotony are:

Nervousness, tenseness

High blood pressure

A tendency to diarrhea

Tachycardia

Wide pupils (Mydriasis)

Damp skin

Lack of sleep, inability to relax

Treating the autonomic malfunctions leads to more sleep, detoxification and better well-being. It also leads to what Pischinger described as “better functions of the milieu intérieur”. The following is an example of good effects that a practitioner, can achieve by rebalancing patients’ autonomic functions: Mrs. S., a 52-year-old woman, had been suffering from chronic pain for years. She had been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, suffered from major depression, sleeping disorders and chronic fatigue. This was also the reason why she retired from work. She said that she had been feeling sick for eight years and was really tired of always being sick. She had been through many clinical examinations without ever getting clear results. Besides taking some vitamins and minerals, she was only taking a homeopathic remedy for low blood pressure. When checking her energy with the REBA, she had very low readings for vitality, emotional power and mental health. These readings fit perfectly with signs of chronic fatigue, depression and the reduction of mental abilities that goes along with chronic pain. Her autonomic nervous system was fixed in vagotony, thus leading to fatigue and cramps. I gave her homeopathic remedies for her emotional issue and Paravita in a daily dosage of 2 x 5 drops (Paravita is only to be taken in the morning and at noon, never in the evening). Three months later she was much better. Her complexion was no longer as pale and she was feeling less fatigued and the intensity of her pain was easier to cope with. Upon retesting, her readings had gone up from 40/10/40 to 70/30/70, and the Paravita vial didn’t test any more – indicating the previous vagotony was gone. But this time something new tested – and I find this in many cases of chronic pain – it was Neurovita, which is a sign of nervous tenseness when the nerves lie blank. By prescribing Neurovita at a daily dosage of 3 x 5 drops, her energies went to 80/80/100 after four months and Mrs. S. completely lost all her previous pains. Summary The true cause behind many symptoms and complaints in our patients are autonomic dysfunctions and blocks. Other causes like geopathic stress or emotional conflicts can also play a role, but in many cases it is autonomic malfunction that causes patients to feel sick. Holistic healing should therefore aim at rebalancing the autonomic function in order to allow the body to return to its automatic regulation. I see my best results in addressing autonomic dysfunctions when using the homeopathic remedies Simvita and Paravita. Since including them in my testing routine, I observe better results, my patients are satisfied and I have much more fun in daily work. I advise other practitioners to try these remedies in their practice in order to confirm they get similar results.
<div

She talks to students about regulation and homeostasis as the driver of our health.
She says that when the roads are full of stalled cars, we can’t get groceries delivered or have the garbage picked up. Stuck at home, you get hungry for a decent meal and more and more creative at hiding your trash until it finally overflows into the living room! Many say that disease erupts when the progressively uncontrolled deposition in matrix garbage cans disables the local functions.

When the selective nutrient assimilation function in the gut is debilitated and the cardiovascular and lymphatic transport mechanisms are congested, the essential building block molecules and cofactors get harder and harder for working cells to find.

Organ function can be overwhelmed by a congestive traffic jam (demand, pathogenicity, edema, by-products and toxic loads) and practitioners seek ways to break up the blockage. Accumulating waste and compromised nutrition processing and transport perpetuates worsening self regulation capacity; it must be resolved.

All detox programs should be accompanied by a drainage plan. Our catalogue allows you to create a customized and affordable drainage and detox kit for a patient. Select your own kit based upon the patient needs.

Drainage remedies need 30 to 60 days to achieve optimal delivery of results. All of them are based on formulations that began in the early 19th Century and they have been improved ever since. They all act by stimulating increased metabolic activity and circulation in the target organ system via the biological activity they provoke.

Try this four-part combination for drainage and detox of the gut, kidney, bladder and liver:

Biomed’s Nestmann 1) Solidago (activates the entire urinary excretory system and prostate), 2) Hepatica (liver function and bile production), 3) Absinthium (stimulation of digestion system: saliva, gastric juices, bile, normalizes gastric motility and autonomic tonicity), 4) Pleo Chelate (metal detox formula).

The Nestmann formulas are among the strongest drainage remedies available and widely preferred by German practitioners. The liquid extractions are preferred because a large portion of the remedy is absorbed into the blood stream even before reconditioning of the intestinal tract.

Try an adjunctive drainage strategy with your ‘stuck’ patient – provoke an activation and see your primary therapies perform better.

Drainage protocols

1. We do know it’s essential for collagen synthesis – the building block for vessels, ligaments, tendons, bone, for assembly of neurotransmitters and for carnitine based facilitators of molecular transport.

Dr. Linus Pauling says large amounts will prevent the common cold, and many others tell much more powerful anecdotes praising the mighty Vitamin C. Look up the Alan Smith news story on Vimeo, or find the handy link to this story on our web site.

Vitamin C is also the grandfather (or grandmother) of the antioxidants, the family of bioactive compounds that help protect our Telomeres, DNA and membranes from the oxidative damage that contributes to aging and cancer.

Interesting to note the debate over how much we need. Most members of the animal kingdom can produce their own Vitamin C from blood glucose. Humans aren’t among the ‘fortunate’ any more and I wonder if that evolved before or after we became such accomplished orchard growers.

Serum Vitamin C produced at natural levels in our mammalian relatives suggests it’s very important. With ranges of five to 275 mg./gram/day being produced in their daily metabolism we wonder how officials recommend daily doses should be little more than trace for this essential daily metabolite. Everyone makes their own judgement from available evidence, as we have.

When the Vitamin C crystal was first isolated in the last century, it was soon appreciated that pure crystalline Vitamin C is actually a poor assimilator. Cofactors were re-introduced to advance cellular assimilation in supplement formulation. When Vitamin C is part of a food or mineral matrix, assimilation is improved. The question becomes what to combine the Vitamin C with and why.

The Biomed Family C story begins with the EfferSea powder (100 grams). This formulation is a palatable buffered effervescent combination that utilizes coral as a mineral source. We recommend it for antihistamine activity and for use in your detox programs where antioxidant protection and mineral replenishment is desirable (calcium, magnesium and potassium content).

Heightened assimilation of Vitamin C is available in two strategies. Complete C is our Food Nutrient Series product that binds ascorbic acid to actual food matrix molecules. Bioflavinoid molecules carry the Vitamin C to the target and the result is a much higher serum result with less actual dosage. Bowel tolerance is a common problem for people encouraged to take high dose Vitamin C. This product allows you to achieve high delivery without the challenge of intestinal upset.

Biomed’s founder launched Ester-C (120 capsules 600 mg. calcium ascorbate), a new Vitamin C form that increased absorption by 300 – 400 percent and also reduced acidity in the stomach. Our latest development with that product was the addition of bioflavinoids and bioperine to the formula.

Bioflavinoids are in the family of anthocyanins found in dark coloured berries and the red wines many love. The anti-angiogenic property of these factors suppresses vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). The consequence is inhibition of a tumour’s capacity to stimulate inward capillary growth to enhance nourishment. The additional observation is that this same characteristic also inhibits the development of new fat mass.

Ester C Premium adds green tea flavonoid polyphenol extract, known to benefit liver enzyme detox, suppressing nitroamine formation, and associated with protection against neurodegenerative diseases. We also added grape seed extract, a flavonoid also known to be cardioprotective, chemoprotective and anti-microbial.

Bioperine is a special extract from black pepper fruits. This factor has been selected to improve absorption in the intestine and further promote retention and availability in the cells.

Our Vitamin C family also includes the The Right C (100 grams: 2.5 g. contains 2 g. sodium ascorbate), a patented, powdered and convenient form of a complex molecule that contains Riboperine. Riboperine is a selected sugar beet extract that accentuates GI absorption and plasma levels of sodium ascorbate by 30 percent.

The Right C Enhanced formulation adds famously powerful antioxidants: pomegranate extract (90:1) and acai fruit extract (4:1). We also added optiberry which is a proprietary blend of berry anthocyanin concentrates.

Now you know our Family C and Bob’s your uncle.

<div

L (+) lactic acid arises physiologically as a product of glycolysis (the breakdown of glucose into lactates) in working muscles.
Upon accumulation, this form of lactate is transported by the bloodstream into the liver, where it is either broken down into CO2 and H2O or, if there is a surplus of energy, reformed into glucose and then glycogen (gluconeogenesis). Professor Wagner, the Director of the Institute of Nutritional Science at Gieben University, proved that L (+) lactic acid contributes to natural cell regeneration, activates respiration and leads to an increase of mitochondrial respiration by up to 350%! This beneficial form of lactic acid is found in the Pleo Sanuvis remedies from Germany.

When cellular metabolism is disturbed and a lack of oxygen occurs, pathological D (-) lactic acid arises through the anaerobic breakdown of carbohydrates. This form of lactic acid causes reactions in the blood vessels and lymph channels, leading to decreased oxygen transportation. Glycolysis becomes insufficient and an accumulation of this pathological lactic acid occurs.
Lack of oxygen within the cells and the consequential accumulation of pathological lactic acid is linked to conditions including: injury (contusions, bruising, sports injuries, sprains), overstrain muscles (sore and aching muscles), pain, skin conditions (psoriasis, neurodermatitis and including early aging signs and wrinkles), heart conditions and circulation (infarction, embolism), cancerous cells, over-acidification of the tissues, dysbiosis, colon conditions, dental conditions (granuloma and/or root canals) and symptoms of aging.
In practice, Pleo Sanuvis (L (+) lactic acid) is successfully used in a variety of conditions (including the above mentioned list). The main clinical characteristics are the underlying factor of a lack of oxygen and the accumulation of acidity due to the formation of lactic acid. According to Dr. Werthmann, a general ‘Sanuvis’ picture is dominated by tiredness and muscular cramps in overworked muscle, frontal headaches, disturbed sleep patterns, epigastric pressure and a weakness of the body.
Pleo Sanuvis is an important component of Sanum therapy, as it ultimately increases oxygen transportation and oxygen utilization within the cells (cellular respiration). It also influences acid-base balance, stimulates detoxification and strengthens the immune system. In addition, it helps to ‘flush’ D (-) lactic acid from the body, thus supporting and speeding up the healing process. From the pleomorphic perspective, L (+) lactic acid positively supports the activity of Mucor racemosus (Pleo Muc).
Pleo Sanuvis is used in conjunction with other Pleo Sanum protocols or as a stand-alone remedy for increased energy. Pleo Sanuvis is available in drops, ampoules, tablets and the newly introduced Pleo Sanuvis ointment. The dosage for drops range from 20 – 60 drops one to three times daily; ampoules two to three times weekly; tablets 1 – 3 once to three times daily; and ointment applied to the affected area once to three times daily.
This information has been compiled from the articles written by Dr. Werthmann’s “Lactic Acid in Daily Practice” and Dr. Anita Kracke’s “Sanuvis 2X Dextro Rotatory Lactic Acid: A Proven Preparation now Available as a Single Homeopathic Remedy”.

nutritional and lifestyle errors are decisive factors

Adapted from an article by Dr. Med. Renate Collier

The acid-base regulation in the human body is at the basis of the most essential metabolic processes in the human body.

Acid Level Affects Enzyme Reactions

For metabolic processes to function properly, a stable cellular acid concentration is required. This concentration may vary only within a small range – between pH 7.3 and pH 7.4. When outside this range, certain enzymatic reactions which regulate the metabolism are negatively affected, leading to toxicity or death of the cell. It is an acid terrain which causes cellular toxicity. This can be overcome through a series of regulatory mechanisms, with the best know as simply breathing to free the body of the dangerous ‘toxic’ carbonic acid that is created by the oxidation of carbohydrates.

Minerals are a Decisive Factor

The most important regulatory mechanism occurs after carbonic acid is created. Within the cell, mineral substances (especially potassium and sodium) neutralize the acid into a harmless salt, which subsequently becomes eliminated through the kidneys via the circulation. The minerals used up by this process must be replaced (through a diet of mineral-rich foods) or detoxification will be compromised.
Most People are Already Too Acidic
Acid-base regulation maintains the proper balance between acids and bases. This regulatory system is constantly monitoring the body’s various vital functions such as respiration, circulation, digestion, elimination, hormone production, and immune response. When the level of carbonic acid in the body becomes high, the regulatory mechanism stimulates the respiratory and circulatory systems to respond in an attempt to rebalance the system. Tiredness and sleep disturbances are early signs of increasing acidity; whereas pain is a more significant signal that the body is out of balance.
Without exception, at the beginning of every disease, there is an over acidified condition! Disease is nothing more than the expression of an overly stressed acid-base regulation. In contrast, acute diseases are an attempt of the body to mobilize available mineral reserves. Therefore it is important to re-establish the body’s pH within the appropriate range before the full manifestation of the disease.

The Connective Tissue Plays a Significant Role

When the elliminatory organs become stressed, the connective tissue acts to take up and store acid released from the cells and organs. The kidneys work quite slowly and as a result, the connective tissue has to function as a ‘pre-kidney’ and stores the salts. This storage is vital in reducing the burden on the kidneys. During the night, these deposited salts are transported by the bloodstream to the kidneys for elimination. For this reason, the urine is most concentrated and has its maximum acid concentration in the mornings.
When the depositions of acids in the connective tissue is no longer adequate to protect the kidney, pathological over-acidification of the entire organism (called acidosis) sets in. This is characterized by acute or chronic inflammation.

Three Stages to Acidosis Build-up

Three stages of acidosis can be identified:
1. ‘Latent Acidosis’ – in which the connective tissue increasingly develops an acid build-up;
2. ‘Compensated Acidosis’ – in which the eliminative organs are required to work in ‘high gear’, inflammation and catarrhs are experienced, and the blood’s alkaline reserves are attacked. However, blood alkalinity does not drop below the critical value of pH 7.0;
3. ‘Decompensated Acidosis’ – in which the alkaline reserves fall below the normal value (pH 7.0); the blood and tissue can no longer manage and acid build-up leads to ‘toxification’. This is the first condition of chronic diseases.
For the ‘Latent Acidosis’ stage, it is still possible to rebalance the acid-basic regulation through dietary and lifestyle changes, regular exercise, fresh air, adequate restful sleep, resolution of emotional problems and minimizing physical or mental stress. For the ‘Compensated and Decompensated Acidosis’ stages, the above suggestions should be embraced in addition to an 80% alkaline diet and taking an alkalizing preparation such as <a
